Since we don't have very many field trips at this point, the trips are long as either half or full days. Carpooling to reach the trip location or starting point is often possible; give us a heads up and we can see if we can work something out. Parents are welcome on all field trips. Kids ages 8-13 will need to have a parent or guardian with them on any field trips they attend.

Blue Hills - June 11, 7am

Experience the beauty of the blue hills and its breeding birds. Stretching across 7,000 acres in Milton, Quincy, Randolph, Dedham, and Canton the reservation includes diverse woods, cattail marsh, several ponds, upland scrub, and cedar bog.
Several miles (3-5 or possibly more) of walking is likely with this full-day trip. The route will depend on what I find while scouting. Buck Hill and Ponkapoag Pond will probably be in the run. Likely birds include close views of Prairie Warblers in a gorgeous setting, Indigo Bunting, Brown Thrasher, Scarlet Tanager, Hermit Thrush, Veery, Northern Waterthrush, Swamp Sparrow, Broad-winged Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, cuckoos, and many more. Worm-eating Warbler is also a possibility. Meet at 7am in the Hillside St parking lot directly across the street from the stone State Police building (685 Hillside St, Milton, MA).

Plymouth Beach - July 23 - 6:30am

Plymouth Beach is one of the best spots in the state to witness shorebird migration and it can be truly spectacular. Plymouth Beach is also one of the largest tern colonies in Massachusetts and possibly Black Skimmers will breed again this year. We didn’t do so well here last year, but it was a too late date and the wrong tides. This year we have picked a date that should be hopefully right at the peak and we will have perfect tides. Expect several miles of walking on rough terrain and harsh light. Make sure to dress accordingly and bring plenty of water.

Parker River NWR  - September 17th - 7am

Parker River NWR is at its best in September! With migration in full swing, you can easily get 80+ species in a day. We will meet at the main gate and then will work our way down the wildlife drive.

Cuttyhunk Island - October 15th

This will be our third annual trip to Cuttyhunk Island and it isn’t a trip to be missed. There is huge potential for this under birded spot and maybe this year we will strike gold with a mega. More information will be added as the time draws closer.
